AJ Fernandez is an absolute legend in the cigar industry. If you've been smoking for more than 5 minutes then I almost guarantee you've smoked a cigar that has come out of his factory. The man makes more cigars than Amazon makes workplace safety violations. This time he teamed up with Eladio Diaz, who spent 40+ years at Davidoff learning how to charge premium prices for everything. Together they created the Enclave by Eladio Diaz - the only Enclave made in the Dominican Republic instead of Nicaragua, like when McDonald's randomly sells pizza in one location just to confuse everyone.

🔥 THE VITALS 🔥
Cigar: Enclave by Eladio Diaz Toro
Master Blender: AJ Fernandez & Eladio Diaz
Size: 6 x 54
Country of Origin: Dominican Republic
Wrapper: Ecuadorian Corojo '99
Binder: Ecuadorian
Filler: Dominican
Price: ~$9.50
Aging: Standard aging at Tabacalera Diaz Cabrera
🚀 WE ARE LIT!
Draw: Pretty darn good, no resistance issues whatsoever
Burn: Steady and reliable like your dad's lawn mowing schedule
Smoke Output: Decent production, nothing special - like a Marvel movie after Endgame
Ash: Holding firm with standard gray coloring

Excellent draw right from the start, performing exactly as you'd expect from AJ's involvement. Decent smoke production but nothing special - it's putting in C+ effort for B+ prices. The wrapper is unremarkable although near the foot there's a large vein that looks like a roadmap to disappointment. Construction is solid because even when AJ phones it in, he's still better than half the industry trying their hardest.
🎢 FLAVOR JOURNEY
FIRST THIRD:
baking spices, cream, tobacco sweetness
Baking spices lead off like they're reading from the "Introduction to Medium-Bodied Cigars" handbook. Cream follows, providing that smooth foundation every blend needs when it doesn't know what else to do. Tobacco sweetness rounds things out, creating a profile that's pleasant but about as exciting as finding out your crush likes The Office - yeah, you and everyone else. The Dominican filler is doing its job, which is apparently to not offend anyone.
SECOND THIRD:
more of the same, with graham cracker, and some sweet cedar
More of the same continues because why change a formula that's working adequately? Graham cracker emerges like it just remembered it was supposed to show up. Sweet cedar adds some dimension, finally bringing something that wasn't in the first third's meeting notes. This is where you realize two master blenders collaborated to create something that tastes like one person's B-minus homework. The Ecuadorian wrapper and binder are having the tobacco equivalent of a Zoom meeting - technically working together but nobody's really engaged.
FINAL THIRD:
leather, charred cedar, baking spices
Leather arrives fashionably late to a party that's already winding down. Charred cedar brings some much-needed character, like the interesting person who shows up just as everyone's calling their Ubers. Baking spices maintain their presence because consistency is apparently more important than evolution. The finish is exactly what you'd expect - competent, forgettable, and leaving you wondering if this collaboration was really necessary.

🏆 THE VERDICT:
B TIER AGGRESSIVELY AVERAGE!
Flavor: B
Construction: B
Availability: A
Price: B
Final Rating:
This is the cigar equivalent of a group project where everyone gets the same grade but only one person did the work. It's not bad, it's not great, it's just... there. Like a reliable sedan in a world of sports cars and SUVs, it'll get you where you're going but you won't Instagram about it.
📊BOTTOM LINE
The AJF Enclave by Eladio Diaz is what happens when two titans of the industry create something that sounds better on paper than it tastes in reality. At $9.50, you're paying for the names on the band more than the tobacco inside. It's the cigar version of a supergroup that releases one forgettable album before everyone goes back to their solo careers. The Dominican production brings nothing special that couldn't have been achieved in Nicaragua, making this feel like change for the sake of change. If you want to smoke an AJ blend, there are dozens of better options. If you want Dominican craftsmanship, Davidoff does it better (though your wallet won't thank you). This sits in that awkward middle ground where it's too expensive to be a daily smoke but not special enough for occasions. Save your money for literally any other AJ Fernandez blend where he actually tried.
TLDR: Two legends walked into a factory and somehow made something average - proof that not all collaborations need to happen, even when the resumés look impressive.
